The study assessed the profitability of catfish marketing in Ondo State, Nigeria. Structured interviews were used to collect information from a total of 50 marketers in each selected town across four local governments using a multi-stage sampling technique. Descriptive statistics, Gini coefficient, and regression analysis were used for data analysis. The profitability analysis showed that catfish marketing is profitable with an income of N2,998 ($8.3) for every marketing operation. The Gini Coefficient value of 0.74 showed a high level of inequality in income distribution among the catfish marketers and also a high concentration of catfish marketers in the study area. The regression analysis showed that the total kilogram of catfish sold, the price per kilogram of catfish, experience in years, transportation cost of catfish, and age in years are determinants of income of catfish marketers and accounted for 91.2% variation in income of the catfish marketers. The problems militating against catfish marketing in the study area include; high rate of spoilage and high cost of transportation in the study area. The study recommended among others that the government should try as much as possible to organize seminars, workshops, and necessary trainings for catfish marketers on how they can reduce their losses so as to have a required and sustainable income.

This study was conceptualized to determine resource use efficiency and misery of sweet potato production window into financial surplus for farming households in Delta State, Nigeria. Multiple sampling technique was applied in picking the samples. One hundred and sixty (160) producers were erratically chosen and interviewed with structured questionnaire. The information gathered were evaluated with descriptive statistics, profitability index and double-log production model. The result indicated that they had average oldness of 38 years, 72.5% of respondents were female with mean family magnitude of 5 individuals and mean number of years spent on farming was 13 years and mean farm land of 0.81 ha and very many of them were educated. On the aspect of costs and returns, it was found that production of sweet potato was highly profitable as specified by the BCR (4.39). The double-log regression model result disclosed that labour, fertilizer, age of farmer, farm size, planting materials expenses and years of farming experience were significantly related with output at 1% and 5% probability levels. The results of resource use efficiency also showed that planting materials, fertilizer farm size and labour were underutilized. The constraints encountered were: inadequate fund, lack of storage and processing facilities and absence of extension visit It is recommended that government intervention is needed to reduce cost and facilitate increased sweet potato production.

The study analyzed the profitability and constraints to pepper marketing in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. A multi-stage random sampling technique was used to select 75 pepper marketers from the list of registered pepper marketers with the pepper marketing association in the study area. Structured questionnaire was used to collect the required information. Descriptive statistics, Net profit and mean score were used to analyze the data collected. Results showed that the mean age of pepper marketers was 34 years and majority, (60%) of the marketers were married, well experience in marketing with a mean household size of 12 persons. Also, Atarodo (Capsicum annum) was the most common varieties of pepper which are marketed fresh in the area. The net return on pepper marketing in the study area was N1.05 which is an indication of profitability of the business. The study further revealed high cost of transportation (mean score= 2.92), lack of storage facilities (mean score= 2.80) and lack of processing facilities (mean score= 2.72) as the major problems facing pepper marketing enterprise in the area. The study recommends government should provide good feeder roads network to ease transportation of perishable agricultural produce like pepper in the area, storage and processing facilities should be made adequate to enhance marketing.

This study was conducted in Abia state, Nigeria with specific objectives to: describe socio economic characteristics of ADP and non-ADP contact farmers; estimate profitability level of the two farmer groups; compare profitability of cassava production among the two farmer groups; determine factors that influence profitability of ADP and non-ADP contact cassava farmers and identify problems constraining the cassava farmers. Multistage sampling technique was used to select respondents. Data collected using structured questionnaire and interview schedule were analysed using descriptive statistics, cost and returns analysis, paired t-test and ordinary least square regression technique. The paired-t-test result showed that ADP contact cassava farmers had a statistically significant higher net return (N93, 638.6) per hectare of cassava production than non-ADP contact farmers (N65, 715.58). Factors that influenced profitability of cassava production among ADP contact farmers were age, variable costs, education and selling price while factors that influenced profitability of cassava production among non-ADP contact farmers were age, farming experience and selling price. Main constraint to cassava production among the ADP and non-ADP cassava farmers was inadequate access to credit. It was recommended that the scope of Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) in the state should be enlarged to accommodate more cassava farmers as evidence showed that ADP impacted positively on profitability of cassava production. To this end, additional skilled manpower should be employed and encouraged to visit more farmers on regular basis to teach them modern agricultural technologies.

The study is an analysis of processing methods, marketing channels, and profitability determinants of selected cassava products in Kogi state, Nigeria. The study was carried out in Kogi East senatorial District of the state. A multi-stage sampling technique was employed in the selection of 120 respondents from whom information were collected and analyzed. The data used for the study were collected using structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and profit function analysis. The study showed that there are three processing methods and three marketing channels for each of the cassava products selected. The study also showed that the variable costs and fixed costs were both significant in profit determination. The study concluded that processing and marketing activities of cassava products are prominent are profitable in the study area. It was recommended that the capital base of the respondents be boosted so that they can use modern processing and packaging techniques.
